Taylor Swift Shakes Off Lawsuit with Settlement

Taylor Swift appears to be out of the woods as she has reached a settlement to resolve a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by clothing brand “Lucky 13” last year.

The bad blood started in May 2014 when Lucky 13 filed its complaint alleging that Taylor Swift and her affiliated companies, such as Taylor Nation LLC and Taylor Swift Productions, Inc., infringed on the registered trademark “Lucky 13.” According to the complaint, Taylor Swift, who claims her lucky number is 13, began using “Lucky 13” to market and sell apparel in 2012. Lucky 13 claims that Swift’s actions have caused “confusion” and will “dilute the significant value” of Lucky 13’s federally registered trademarks.

The case has been anything but a love story as the two parties have spent the last few months battling over Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour. After the presiding judge held that Swift needed to create a blank space in her schedule for a deposition, Swift asked the court to postpone the deposition until after her tour. Swift’s representative went on to claim that Lucky 13 was just causing trouble, stating that “[t]he owner of Lucky 13 wants to harass Taylor into a settlement.”

While the court ruled in Swift’s favor, the settlement still came into fruition, making a Taylor Swift trial only in the public’s wildest dreams.
