After a mysterious scene on a Boston highway, Brandon Spikes finds himself without a job and facing criminal charges. At around 3:20 a.m. on June 7, Massachusetts State Police responded to an abandoned vehicle on I-495 in Foxborough. The vehicle had significant front-end damage and was left in the median. A roadside assistance operator informed the police that the driver of the vehicle had reported hitting a deer. There was neither a deer nor a driver present at the scene. The abandoned vehicle was registered to then New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes.

At about the same time in the same area, Massachusetts State Police received a report that a 2009 Nissan Murano had been rear-ended by another vehicle that had fled the scene of the accident. All three passengers of the Murano were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Immediately, the New England Patriots released Brandon Spikes. Things would continue to get worse for Spikes. Just days after being released from the Patriots, the Massachusetts State Police filed charges accusing Spikes of driving the abandoned vehicle that was ultimately linked to the accident with the Nissan Murano. According to the State Police, Spikes was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a marked lane violation. The family traveling in the Nissan Murano has also retained legal counsel for the injuries they sustained. Their attorney has vowed to “pursue justice” for his clients.

Spikes’ criminal case will proceed in Wrentham District Court in Massachusetts.
