NCAA Fights PA Law to Spread Penn State’s Sandusky Fine Nationwide

On Monday, October 6, the NCAA filed a motion in federal court, asking to have a newly enacted Pennsylvania law, which manipulates the Penn State Sandusky fine, invalidated as it is unconstitutional.

The NCAA’s motion is directed at the Institution of Higher Education Monetary Penalty Endowment Act, which was enacted in 2013 in response to a fine levied against Penn State University.  In 2012, the NCAA and Penn State agreed to a Consent Decree penalizing the university for the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.  …

Penn State Taking Notable Steps to Implement Systemic Changes After Sandusky Scandal

Penn State is apparently making steady progress in incorporating the requirements mandated by the NCAA on the heels of the embarrassing Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.  Last month, former Senator George Mitchell (the third-party Athletics Integrity Monitor) stated that Penn State is implementing various campus-wide changes to address deficiencies which had rendered the University and its administrators partly culpable for Sandusky’s criminal actions.

Judge Grants Jerry Sandusky’s Motion for Post-Trial Evidentiary Hearing

Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky was already convicted on 45 counts related to child molestation and was sentenced to 30-60 years. The trial judge has now granted Sandusky’s motion for a post-trial evidentiary hearing. Sandusky is seeking to overturn the verdict or obtain a new trial on the grounds that his lawyers did not have enough time to prepare for trial.
