Seventh Circuit: Season Tickets are a Privilege, Not a Right

On June 22, 2017, a three-judge Seventh Circuit panel ruled Indianapolis Colts’ season ticket holders do not have a right to roll their seats over from one year to the next. This upholds a U.S. District Court ruling from November 2016.

NJ Devils Sued for Restricting Resale of Season Tickets

Two NJ Devils fans filed a class action lawsuit against the team, alleging that the team restricts the resale of tickets by season ticket holders.  According to the court document, the Devils only allows season ticket holders to resell their individual tickets exclusively through Ticketmaster, the team’s designated reseller.  If a ticket holder chooses to sell the ticket by other means, including websites like StubHub.com, the team cancels season tickets or charges extra fees.

Flyers & NHL Settle Class Action Winter Classic Dispute

A $1.1 million settlement has been reached in a putative class action about the 2012 Winter Classic tickets. Philadelphia Flyers season ticket holders sued Comcast Spectator – the team’s owner – and the NHL after being “forced” to purchase tickets to the Winter Classic separately at a significantly higher price.  If approved, the settlement, filed in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey on December 12, 2013 will end the breach of contract action.
