Bill Cosby: Accuser Out for Money

Posted by

In a court filing submitted on Thursday, Cosby’s attorney Martin Singer accused Judy Huth, an alleged sexual assault victim of Cosby, filed a suit in California after the comedian refused her “outrageous demand for money in order not to make her allegations public.”  Further, the demand apparently increased from $100,000 initially to $250,000.

According to the lawsuit filed last Tuesday, Huth alleged that in 1976 Cosby made her and her friend drink beer and took them to the Playboy Mansion where he sexually assaulted her. Huth was 15 then.  She claimed her “psychological injuries and illnesses were caused by the sexual abuse” were recently discovered.

Cosby’s attorney argued in the filing that since the alleged incident happened almost 40 years ago, the allegations are “inherently unreliable.”  He added that though unsuccessful, Huth tried to sell her story to the tabloids about 10 years ago. Calling the allegations “patently false,” Singer asked the case dismissed as it has passed the statute of limitations and an order requiring Huth to pay $33,000 in Cosby’s legal fees.

Meanwhile, LAPD said that the department would investigate the allegations against the comedian regardless of the statute of limitations but currently does not have an open investigations going.  On a related note, California attorney Gloria Allred on Wednesday proposed Cosby waive the statute of limitations or place $100 million in a fund to compensate victims if their claims are found to be meritorious by a panel of retired judges.
